I’m David Block, Accountant, Advisor and Analyst.

With a proven track record in business improvement and using my obsession with data & technology, I work with all types of established, SME’s owners striving to achieve scale, wealth and a positive social impact. I’ve had the pleasure of working with over 200 business owners over my Accounting and Advisory career including everything from Accommodation Providers to Zoo Veterinarians and everything in between. I enjoy working across many industries, however I add the most value to businesses in the e-commerce, professional services, wine, agribusiness, hospitality and retail industries.
Every client I’ve worked with is special to me and I vividly remember my very first client back in 2008. I met with someone who had not done 15 years of personal tax returns but still had a solid business that was all up to date. By the time I finished the catch-up work and helped secure over $50,000 in tax refunds (and more in penalty remissions), I had actually completed 16 tax returns and to this day we still work together, now with a more proactive focus on the growth of his evolving manufacturing business.

Winery
Established analytics capability and developed a Power BI report pack that is updated automatically every 6 hours and provides detailed information on customer profitability, individual product margins and inventory velocity / rolling turnover.
Outcome
4+ hours a week of time saved in spreadsheets and 10%+ increase in gross profit margin on focus products.
Hospitality
Assisted a small business that was severely affected by COVID19 by assessing eligibility and applying for government support across a number of avenues and securing payment deferrals for outstanding tax debts with the Australian Taxation Office.
Outcome
Access to $25,000+ of cash by deferring tax debt for 12 months and $70,000+ of one-off government subsidies.
Architect
Restructured fast-growing 3 partner firm from a trust structure into corporate structure utilising small business CGT concessions and implemented annual tax planning process for the group.
Outcome
Ability to retain more 19.5% more cash with corporate structure, achieved uplift in cost base without tax liability and generated tax savings of $30,000+ in the first year.
Transport (Agribusiness)
Reviewed business systems for 75 employee transport business, provided recommendations for new cloud-based, integrated systems and managed the implementation of these new systems.
Outcome
15+ hours a week of time saved in data entry duplication and reduced the average time taken to produce cashflow forecasts from 4+ weeks to 1 week.
